What is Heretic Chess?

Heretic Chess is a single-player chess roguelite. You play standard chess against an AI opponent, earn coins each game, and spend them on modifier cards that upgrade your pieces with fairy chess movement. Turn a Rook into a Chancellor, a Bishop into an Archbishop, and more.

Is the app free?

Yes. The full game is free to play. There are optional premium modifier cards available as one-time purchases, but they are not required to progress or win.

What are modifier cards?

Modifier cards grant additional movement types to your chess pieces. For example, a +Knight card adds the knight leap to a Rook, turning it into a Chancellor. Cards are bought with coins earned from playing games.

What are premium cards?

Premium cards are optional in-app purchases that add powerful combo movement types. They are consumable, so each purchase adds one copy to your current save slot on the current device.

Do I need to win to progress?

No. Every game earns coins, win or lose. Losing is expected. The loop is: play, earn, upgrade, retry. The economy is generous so you always make progress.

How many save slots are there?

Five. Each save slot stores an independent run with its own difficulty, owned cards, coins, and equipped loadout. Deleting a save slot removes all data including any premium cards on that slot.

Is my data stored online?

No. All game data is stored locally on your device. There are no accounts or cloud sync. Uninstalling the app will delete all progress.

How do I restore purchases?

Premium cards are consumable purchases tied to your save slot on the current device. They cannot be restored after deletion of the save slot or reinstalling the app. This is clearly stated before each purchase.
